MEET JAMES STEWART
James E. Stewart, Sr. was elected Caddo Parish District Attorney on November 21, 2015. He brings more than 42 years of experience in the legal system, having served as a lawyer, District Court Judge, and Appellate Court Judge in Caddo Parish.
Throughout his career, District Attorney Stewart has been recognized for professionalism, leadership, and service within the legal community. In 2016, the Shreveport Bar Association awarded him the Professionalism Award, recognizing his courtesy, integrity, and long-standing commitment to ethical practice. He has also received recognition from professional and civic organizations for leadership, public service, and work with youth and victim-focused initiatives.
In 2020, District Attorney Stewart received the Liberty Bell Award from the Shreveport Bar Association for contributions to the community and the justice system. In 2022, he was presented the Leaders in Law Enforcement Award by the Community Foundation of Acadiana, recognizing leadership and service in public safety and the administration of justice.
District Attorney Stewart has maintained active involvement in civic and professional organizations and has worked closely with community partners throughout his career. His leadership reflects a focus on experience, accountability, and respect for the rule of law.
He is a member of Mt. Canaan Baptist Church. District Attorney Stewart is married to Helen Ewing Stewart, and together they are the parents of seven children and grandparents to five grandchildren.
